Yard Laborer and Driver

Reports to:

Yard Supervisor

Objective:

A Yard Laborer & Driver is a responsible individual who excels in the tasks of a yard laborer and delivers customer orders. This member of our staff promptly and accurately delivers materials while maintaining safe working habits and professional service. She/he utilizes and coordinates his/her time efficiently and promotes customer satisfaction.

Job Specifications, Standards and Requirements:

• Has a safe driving record
• Knows how to properly load delivery trucks for safe transportation
• Has fundamental knowledge of material and products
• Possesses basic math skills in order to minimize the chances of inaccuracies when loading customer orders and deliveries
• Has a flexible work schedule and respects the need for sporadic over time
• Respects and takes proper care of material, equipment and vehicles
• Communicates effectively with others, including customers and coworkers
• Is trust worthy and reliable
• Maintains a professional image

Broad Responsibilities:

Yard Laborer:

• Efficiently load customer orders
• Engage in appropriate yard maintenance including, shoveling, cutting the lawn, filling in pot holes, cleaning up misc. items in the yard, etc.
• Ensure that lumber is always neatly piled and properly tarped
• Perform general renovation work and building maintenance
• Operate forklift to unload and load trucks when appropriate
• Receive and properly store merchandise received from distributors after verifying the shipment against the invoice, and having reported any discrepancies to the supervisor.
• Maintain clean and safe working environment
• Ensure completion of any other miscellaneous tasks as required

Driver:

• Complete appropriate vehicle checks on a daily basis
• Prepare and properly load delivery truck
• If required, plan and load deliveries with multiple orders appropriately
• Always double check delivery order to ensure accuracy before departure
• Check items noting any breakage and/or damages before and after delivery
• Plan the shortest delivery route and deliver accordingly
• Collect payments as well as signatures and issue receipts as required
• Clean and maintain vehicles
• Report vehicle malfunctions and/or mechanical problems to your supervisor
